“Hello Gorgeous” ©Ger Wolfe 2020 1. Hello gorgeous , is this where you hide when Winter cuts her old cold letters in the glass? Silver- frosted grass Hello angel, I have searched the streets and all the broken alleys, from the frozen past, Emptiness at last Sea wave / skywards / heart-worn / old-words 2. Goodbye sorrow all you gave us since you landed in our doorway is eloquence and loss Is chance the coin you toss? Goodbye absolute perfection , we who’ve struggled in your shadow, choose to go at last Loose your brittle grasp Freedom / calling /soaring / gliding /dancing / laughter / Bright-eyed / Wonder 3.Hello Gorgeous, is this where you go when sunshine sends you playing , in the tall tall grass? Summer’s come at last.

The last rose of Summer. ©Ger Wolfe 2020 1.The last rose of Summer lies down on the lawn, blue-skied forever long after the Fall Out of the garden I’s banished to roam, over the estuary, the blood-dark foam Because you held me in the evening , the road all quiet and the terror gone, I hold a vessel of forgiveness, and flare a signal for our love, for your love. 2.Sirens are only just faded and worn, under the bridge still afraid of the dawn Such a long journey and such a dark roadlonging for letters or a postcard from home Because you snag out in the twilight, the coffee clouds and the radio on, I hold a vessel of Redemption , and draw a symbol of a loss. 3.Digital memory , predictive verbs, acres of messages, bundles of words Can’t even shadow the warmth of your hand Down on the footpath alone now I stand Because you held me in the evening, beside the ruined city walls, I am a vessel of our parting, the silent songbird when you call, Because you held me in the evening, the road torn and the terror come, you are a vessel of our parting, the silent songbird I can’t call.

A Call to Arms- ©Ger Wolfe 2020. 1. You took my hand and led me out of time, Into the hills and the mountains high When I lay lost, my mind all gone astray You shone a light into my dark When only chaos was my vision and confusion shook a stick at simple ways un-complicated 2. The scattered earth, the broken consequence, Of all that hurt and all this shame. The shattered glaze, unspoken confidence Of this one heart in it’s refrain. 3 .A blossom falls, something so intricate, A call to arms, a flight of doves. A nation reels, intrusion delicate, A loss of charms, an idol down. 3. You took my hand and led me out of time, Into the hills and the mountains high When I lay lost, my mind all gone astray You shone a light into the dark

When we were farming land © Ger Wolfe 2020 I hold your hand the snow is on the ground We walk rough land the evening shadows grow Along the way we see the rivers flow They come and go out of our view but still You have your father’s face, his eyes and turn of phrase You move your arms around just like he did, when we were farming land 2.I hold your hand the sun lights on your brow Brightens your face the days are longer now Along the way we hear creation groan It weaves a blanket where the leaves are blown Ch. 3.A Journey long a Winter on the road So many steps tghe counting comes and goes The rhyme of night and day all winter long The climbing hill the calling birds of song. No chorus here. 4.You hold my hand the years have come and gone Left with this tune a half remembered song Hope is a memory in the haze of time One syllable alive a nursery rhyme.
5.
I won’t forget your name. © Ger Wolfe 2020 1.Lost in a maze of sorrow, Bound by the chains of hatred and despair, Caught in a web of violence, All because you believe this god of fear, Look to the world of sparrows, Look to the world of children at their play, Hear all this dancing music, Look to the river flowing through the day, Look to the world of brightness. Look to the Queen of beauty on her throne, This is the work of Wisdom, This is the ploughing sower and the sown- The sun burns through the sky, The stars light up the night, The truth it will remain, Like a river flowing across the earth, my love is in your heart I won’t forget your name. No no I won’t forget your name no no no forget your name 2.Scatter the seed of living Nurture the growing kernel in the grain An open hand for Giving, only to find man take a life again Scatter the seed of beauty nurture the beating pulsing in the vein An open heart Foregiving Only to see man dim the light again Look to the world of brightness…….. Can’t you see the sun burns in the sky, The stars light up the night, The truth it will remain, Like a river flowing across the earth, My Love is in your heart, I won’t forget your name.

I see the new Moon © Ger Wolfe 2020 I see the new moon, I hear an old song Coming down the road children running down the road Rain and the darker sky, clouds in the freezing night All along the cold walking old among the cold Footsteps and beating hearts, lost in the beating stars Surely summer knows lover surely summer knows Bells and the honey swarmed over the moon unborn Blazing new the sun willow-waltzing everyone Even in the dark brighter days will come Even in the silence we sing a higher song. Shadows and flowers lost paying the sunshine cost Tides that come and go always tides to come and go Silence the swallow tide, sings out a riddled rhyme Morning noon and dark in the yawning noon of sun Smiles and the bright blue moon we are the treasured song Brighter days to come cuckoo brighter days to come Even in the dark.......

Colder than The Winter ©Ger Wolfe 2020 1. Colder than the Winter, War comes like a flame, Call back all your armies, Lie in your lover’s arms again. Don’t destroy the seasons, with the blood offering you make, Lie down in the garden, count all the stars above your head, Warm and Gentle , warm and gentle. 2. Lips as red as roses, eyes as black as coal, Voice is sweet as angels, could be the flowe’r among them all. Streets and streets of rubble, sea on sea of tears, Refugees on buses , trying to build that dream again. Warm and gentle (soft and gentle but that’s a shampoo?). 3. Colder than the Winter, War comes like a flame, Call back all your armies, Lie in your lover’s arms again.

Something stirred a memory © Ger Wolfe 2001 written in Sharman Crawford Street probably around 1992 Something stirred a memory inside of me , spilled a jar of memory belong to me Scattered on the kitchen floor , things that I thought lost before ; In my mind I wondered as a child , where I hid my answer days unwind. Cockle-shells and broken light-bulbs , coins and keys , rubber bands and timber buttons , I’m on my knees, speaking words I heard before , the echo of an open door , In my mind I wondered as a child, smelled the breath of horses , dancing wild. As they fell they skipped and whistled on their way, In my tracks I stopped and listened to what they’d say, Scattered on the kitchen floor , things that I’d been looking for , In my mind I wondered as a child , under rock and pebble , dreams collide , In my mind I wondered as a child , where I hid my answers , dreams unwind….

I am a Wave 02:39
I am a wave- ©Ger Wolfe 2020 new words to the traditional song ‘The dying Soldier’ 1. I am a wave in dark and night I shed all things to gather light I shed all things, memory and more, The debris lies along the shore 2. I am a bird at skybound flight I curve the globe in feathered bright I curve the globe Horizon- wide I skim the earth and salt blessed tide. 3. I am a lamb , a snow white dove The morning star of Guiding Love The morning star that sails and flies Through endless ages never dies.

WALK THE LONG ROAD. ©Ger Wolfe 2020 Walk the long road oh child of the morning ,colour your steps every inch of the way ,orange for the sky and corn for your journey , rain for the earth and a song for your sail. Beware of the thief who would dagger you smiling , down to the valley of carried-away, puts your soul in a bag and your heart in the river , your word in a pit and your hope blown away. Words that are sweeter than honey will fall from his mouth , will fall from his mouth. Carve your own rock , oh son in the moonlight ,follow your star to the possible end , bright as the spark that started your travelling , bright as the Son who waits at your road end, Beware of the word that would scatter your memory, down to the abyss of an endless black night , put your seed in the ground and your chaff on the meadow , your word in a prayer in the valley of light . Words that are sweeter than honey will stream form your mouth , will stream from your mouth. Words that are sweeter than honey , will stream from your mouth , will stream from your mouth .Will stream , will stream , will stream . © Ger Wolfe 2020.

about

This is Ger's 9th studio album in the last 22 or so years. Recorded between the two Covid lockdowns in Ireland, Ger returns to the simple format of earlier albums like 'Word and Rhyme' and 'No Bird Sang' with more 'well crafted vignettes of beautiful song' (Irish Times). Produced and engineered by newcomer Amhlaíobh Mc Sweeney there are some gorgeous songs here , including the opener 'Hello Gorgeous' commissioned in the spring by Music Network which set the spark that resulted in this collection. Spanning themes from forced migration to memory loss, life and love, this is a stunning album from one of Ireland's best loved independent artists.
